Miley Mania in the January Issue!

December 22nd, 2009 by Anthea | 13 Comments | Filed in The Magazine

Yay! I’m very excited today! Not only is Christmas a few short days away, but the January issue of Girl Power is hitting stands. It is packed to the brim with fun ideas for summer, it has a new star sign section and loads of cool celebs. We also know you LOVE to get totally quizzical so we included 8 brand new quizzes in our fun-filled issue!

Miley Cyrus is our Jan cover girl so I decided to go digging for some goss on what’s been making news with Miley…

First up, Miley just bought a new dog and it has a very Aussie name! Apparently the puppy’s name is inspired by a book of Australian lingo given to her by rumoured sweetheart Liam Hemsworth. She says, “I just bought a little German Shepherd and I named it Mate because I always say ‘mate’ now to Liam.”

Liam better watch out though because guess what? Miley is totally crushing on Zac Efron! Miley recently gushed, “I think Zac Efron is the hottest person in the world…and he is so loyal and a really good friend, and he’s so so the same, and he’s just, like, super-good-looking.” He sure is Miley!

It hasn’t been all good news for Miss Cyrus lately… The Grammy nomination for “The Climb” in the category of best song for a soundtrack was just taken away because the song was not written specifically for “Hannah Montana: The Movie”. That’s so sad and a little bit unfair don’t you think!? “The Climb” is such a super song and part of an amazing movie moment.

For more on Miley, make sure you check out our Jan issue! In the meantime, what’s got you excited this week? Heard any Miley goss that we’ve missed?

Merry Christmas Girl Powerettes!

Congrats Mr & Mrs Jonas!

December 21st, 2009 by Nat | 3 Comments | Filed in Celebrity, Relationliships

We were so excited to hear that Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasy tied the knot this weekend! A big congrats to the happy couple, who met two years ago on a beach holiday in the Bahamas. Kevin says that meeting Danielle was like ‘finding his princess’- awww!

Joe and Nick were Kevin’s best men, and the boys were probably as excited as he was. But will it be weird now that Kevin’s a married man? The boys are so close, they do everything together, and they hardly even argue! Nick says, “If there’s something we disagree on, we’ll have a conversation about it. But it’s not an immature kind of, ‘I’m right and I’m going to be stubborn about it”

How do you deal when you and your sibling disagree about something? Christmas can often mean a lot of intense family time, whether in the car or over lunch and dinner. Maybe we should all take leaf out of the JoBros book, and settle arguments calmly and rationally. I know I’ll try to!

I’m really getting into the Christmas spirit now! Not long now… only 7 more days! Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday! Take care and stay safe!

Clowning Around at GP

December 16th, 2009 by Bec | 2 Comments | Filed in Stuff

We’ve sure been clowning around a bit at Girl Power this week! Yesterday Bec, Mel and I had a ball at the latest photo shoot for the mag. With all the tightropes, juggling batons and clown wigs littered across the studio it was pretty obvious the theme was… you guessed it… THE CIRCUS!

In the morning our photo shoot was literally bursting with fashion and fun. At one point we even had bubbles and party poppers exploding through the studio! I think our totally talented models were born to perform. Then, just when we thought we couldn’t get enough funky fashion, we had ANOTHER photo shoot in the arvo with a top-secret theme that we can’t wait to reveal super soon!

Speaking of all things in fashion, have you noticed how the circus is totally a top theme for pop performers right now? Clearly Britney’s Circus tour was packed with heaps of circus acts and Pink’s Funhouse tour was just full to the brim with acrobatics.

Can you imagine being an acrobat? I’d freak out being so high in the air… How about you Girl Powerettes? Do you dream of joining the circus and being an awesome acrobat? Do you have any fun or freaky circus acts you like to perform for your besties?

New Year’s Resolutions

December 14th, 2009 by Nat | 1 Comment | Filed in Contribute, Stuff, Wisdom

So 2010 is approaching, which is really exciting! A new year often means a fresh start and a chance to do all those things you’ve been meaning to try but never get around to. For me this includes trying out all those awesome DIY projects that I get inspired to do over the year. I’d also like to shop less and become a better cook!

What do you guys resolve to do more of this year? Miley’s 2009 resolution was to: ” Exercise more and eat healthier”

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez says hers was to “be a better friend. I want to make sure my friends like Demi [Lovato] and Jennifer [Stone] know how much I appreciate them. It’s important to always say thank you to your BFF.”

Whether its to learn a whole new skill, like rockclimbing or photography, or vowing to do one good deed every day, a new year’s resolution can very rewarding ! Sticking to your resolution, is easier said than done, so I’d like to know Powerettes, will you be making a resolution this year and if so, what will it be?

New Moon – New Rumours!

December 8th, 2009 by Girl Power Magazine | No Comments | Filed in Celebrity

Hey Girl Powerettes!

I’m still buzzing from my fab weekend! I FINALLY got to see New Moon with my besties Alex and Adam. I think we were on the edge of our seats for the whole film! While Adam was on team Jacob and Alex was undecided, my heart definitely still lies with Edward. Swoon!

In fact, I think I might have found the perfect early Christmas pressies for my friends. Apparently ‘Team Edward’ and ‘Team Jacob’ Christmas stockings have just hit shelves…

Speaking of rumours, SO much gossip has been circulating about New Moon. It is making my head spin! I decided to investigate three big rumours to find out whether they were true or false.

Rumour #1: Rob’s most embarassing moment on the New Moon set was filming his first scene where he has to walk slowly through the woods.

This rumour is so TRUE! Rob revealed, “It’s the most humiliating experience. That was a long walk as well… There’s nothing else to it other than trying to look sultry or whatever!… I think I could only do it two times, because Kristen was being in my eyeline as well and she couldn’t stop laughing every single time I was coming across.”

Rumour #2: New Moon has been SO popular that they have decided to make a TV series of the Twilight Saga.

Sadly this rumour is FALSE. While the studio has been a bit shady about this one, it seems Rob, Taylor and Kristen won’t be appearing in a TV series any time soon.

Rumour #3: Ashley Greene (who plays Alice Cullen) had a male stunt double for the scenes where she is driving around Italy in a Porsche.

LOL! This rumour is actually TRUE! Ashley spilled, “It was a man! I’m not kidding! I guess there’s not really stuntwomen in this part of Italy.” Apparently they had to get the stuntman to put on a wig so we all wouldn’t notice!

Phew! Glad those rumours have been sorted. What about you Girl Powerettes? Have you heard any crazy New Moon rumours and did you heart the film? Are you still team Edward or have you totally switched?

Just 18 Days to Christmas!

December 7th, 2009 by Girl Power Magazine | No Comments | Filed in School, Stuff

Hey Girl Powerettes!

Don’t you love this time of year? School hols are getting closer and closer, the weather’s warming up and Christmas is in just 18 days! YAY!

But this month is also about changes as we say goodbye to teachers, classrooms and normal school routines for a whole 6 weeks!  Changes can be hard to get used to, just ask Nick Jonas, who performed at the Grammy Awards without his brothers for the first time last week.

Nick says “It felt a little weird and a little different” (performing without Kevin and Joe). But Nick did an awesome job with his band ‘Nick Jonas and the Administration’ and you can check out his performance in the vid below!

What are you most looking to these holidays Powerettes?? Write in and let us know! Have a great week, and enjoy your last bit of term 4!
