GP Chats to Emily Williams!

July 17th, 2012 by Whitney | 4 Comments | Filed in Celebrity, Music, Stuff

GP got chatty with super songstress, Emily Williams! Emily talks about her new album ‘Uncovered’,  being a female role model and even spills about an onstage slip up!

GP: What can we expect from your new album?

Emily: You can expect a lot of things! You can expect a lot of songs you can dance to and songs you can connect with. It’s all about emotions. The songs are also strengthening for girls and encouraging them to be strong and pick themselves up again when things get tough. Go for what you love!

GP: How would you describe your sound?

Emily: I would describe my sound as a mix of pop and soul. I love to dance a lot so I make sure some of my songs have a good rhythm to dance to. I also like to play songs in the morning because it makes me feel happy to start the day by dancing. But I know that there’s not always going to be happy times, so I make sure there is a bit of contrast in my songs as well.

GP: Who influences you the most when it comes to music?

Emily: Oh gosh, there are so many! Where do I start? I love all different artists. I love listening to The Beach Boys and I love Adele at the moment, too. She’s absolutely incredible. Definitely Rihanna, I love Rihanna’s swagger. I love Mariah’s older music because I grew up listening to it. But I really like Madonna, I’ve got to say I love Madonna.

GP: How does it feel to be performing solo again, after the Young Divas?

Emily: It gets kind of lonely because I miss the girls. But I started off like this when I was about five years old on stage, so it’s not new to me. I do miss the girls sometimes, but in the end, if this is what you want to do then you’ve got to work for it.

GP: Have you had any embarrassing moments on stage?

Emily: I think I might have when I was touring with Young Divas. We were onstage together and one of my buttons on my white shirt popped off and eventually all the buttons went ‘pop, pop, pop’ as they fell off! I was shocked and all I remember is seeing Paulini looking very shocked too!

GP: How important is it to be an important role model for young girls?

Emily: Well, to be honest, my daughter is nine. So I try to be careful with what I show and things i say. Because obviously when your daughter’s watching you, she’s going to follow every single thing you do. I want to tell girls to be yourself. Don’t follow the crowd and never let words get you down. Don’t gossip and never talk badly about other people because it can stir up a lot of trouble. Make sure you take care of yourself and be honest with yourself. Go for your goals, don’t be afraid to show who you are even if you are different.

GP: What advice do you have for Girl Power readers trying to achieve their dreams?

Emily: It doesn’t matter what it is, work hard for it. Always strive and never give up! Once you give up, it’s going to fall back down too. You’ve just got to keep pressing for it!

Emily’s album, ‘Uncovered’ is out now!
