They became one of the coolest couples in Hollywood and Miley even came to visit him in Australia! “He has become my best friend in the whole wide world. I love him,” she said. “He really respects me for who I am because coming from Australia, he really didn’t know me as the celebrity I am here.”

Sadly Liam’s reps have confirmed they are no longer together… maybe because they are both such busy bees! Miley’s signed up for loads of new flicks, PLUS she’s promoting her album and finishing up super series Hannah Montana. Meanwhile Liam’s starting production on epic flick Arabian Nights and settling into Hollywood life…

We hope they aren’t both too teary about the break up! What do you think girls? Are you sad to see them split? We thought they were a cute couple…

Here at GP HQ, we are HUGE fans of Glee! We’re devo that the first season is all finished up, so to tide us over, we’ve been busy digging up all the latest goss from the Glee set…

• Pop Princess Britney Spears guest stars in an episode called Britney/Brittany – a reference to Glee club member and cheerleader Brittany. The storyline is super secret so there was extra security on set when they were filming! There were so many guards that the creator of the series, Ryan Murphy, struggled to get into his own set at one point! “It was literally like the President had come,” he said. Eeeek!
• Lea Michele wants Britney’s former flame to appear on Glee too! “Justin Timberlake would be the perfect Glee guest star: He sings, he dances, and he’s hilarious!” she says. We think he’d be fab…
• British singer Susan Boyle will star as a lunch lady in a Christmas episode of Glee!
• Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is a mega-gleek and says he would love to appear in the series. He’s currently taking singing and dancing lessons in prep for a Broadway show, so maybe he’ll be able to use his new skills in a Glee cameo…

In other Glee news…

• Glee got nineteen Emmy nominations… That’s the most of any prime-time series! One of those 19 was a best actress nomination for the lovely Lea Michele. She was SO excited, saying “I’ve dreamed about something like this my whole life!”
• Do you love the Gleeky fashion in the series? The official ‘Glee’ clothing line has hit stores in the US. It includes a cute Cheerios-inspired tee, Sue Sylvester tracksuits and other preppy pieces! We want!
• A whole Glee radio station in the UK has been set up to play songs from the series 24 hours a day! Woah… now that’s Gleeky.

Here at GP HQ, we just LOVE Barbie! We think she’s oh so cool so we trawled the archives to find five fun facts about this gorgeous gal…

• Barbie has had more than 50 pets! Some of the crazier ones are a lion cub, a panda and a giraffe! LOL!
• Ken was named after the son of the creators of Barbie – Ruth and Elliot Handler
• 1 billion fashions have been produced since 1959 for Barbie and friends. Um… she’d need a pretty big closet for that!
• Barbie has had more than 125 careers – she’s got a massive resumé!
• She’s a film star! Barbie appeared in Toy Story 3!

Last week we told you all about the Australian Science Festival and this week there’s even more science stuff on the calendar! National Science Week is now on and there are lots of events on in every state so make sure you check out their website.

To celebrate, we got chatting to Dr. Hazel Barton. She’s a microbiologist AND a cave explorer… how cool is that!? She’s gone caving all over the world because she hopes to find specimens in the deepest darkest caves that will help her make the next medical breakthrough! Hazel has even starred in her own IMAX film, Journey into Amazing Caves, which looks at crazy caves from ice caves in Greenland, to underwater caves in the jungles of Mexico. Girl Power: So how did you combine caving and science for one of the coolest careers ever?!

Dr. Hazel Barton: I wanted to keep my cave exploration and my science separate, as I didn’t want to turn caves into a job or use my science as an excuse to get into neat caves. After my Ph.D. my boss suggested I go and do microbiology in places where no one else could, so I decided to take a look.  The results were fascinating.  I’ve been doing it ever since!

GP: So what’s your proudest achievement?

HB: Getting my PhD.

GP: And your most amazing discovery?

HB: In microbiology – I think it’s the finding that microorganisms are actually involved in making cave formations, stalactites and stalagmites.  Very, very cool. In caving, we found a new section of Wind Cave that was about 5 km long.  We called it the Lunatic Fringe because when we found it we all ran around like lunatics with excitement!

GP: Any top tips for Girl Powerettes who want to be super scientists like you?

HB: If you want to know how things work, why things the way they are, then you are a scientist.  Everyone thinks being a scientist is hard work, but as long as you just want to understand the world around you and keep following that passion, you will become a scientist. It’s the same for all science in all fields.

GP: So caves can be pretty cramped…Do you ever get claustrophobic?

HB: Not really. I got nervous one time while I was cave diving in Mexico.  I was squeezing through a hole and my helmet got jammed. I was about 100 feet underwater and about half a mile from the entrance and I really did get quite nervous. But other than that, no, not really.  The tightest passage I’ve gone through was about 20 cm wide, but that didn’t bother me.

GP: You’ve been in lots of docos and films. What’s more nerve-wracking, going into a cave or talking in front of the camera?

HB: Definitely talking in front of a camera! Although the scariest thing is when they want you to abseil while they film you – there’s something really nerve-wracking about sliding down a rope while it’s being recorded on film!

GP: So what’s it like seeing yourself on the IMAX screen?

HB: I closed my eyes the first time – I couldn’t watch. I’ve seen it so many times now I’ve gotten used to it, but I just don’t like watching myself on TV!

GP: So to finish up Hazel, you’ve been caving in over 1000 caves, is there one you still dream of visiting?

HB: Hmmm… that’s a difficult one.  I would guess it would be Gua Nasib Bagus cave in Mulu National Park, Borneo.  It contains the Sarawak chamber, which is the largest cave chamber in the world – you could put seven jumbo jets tail-to-tail in there.

So here’s some hilarious breaking news for you… This weekend, kids at a Melbourne high school were rocking out at their school formal, when the night took a pop-tastic turn!

Miss Katy Perry happened to be at the hotel where the formal was being held, so she decided to surprise the kids by making a star appearance. She wandered into the centre of the dance floor and took the microphone for an impromptu performance… Katy started to rock out to Beyoncé, but the DJ switched the track to her new hit single, “California Gurls“. She hung around to take a few pics, before continuing on her way!

Also with her was celeb DJ Ruby Rose! What a cool combo! Katy even tweeted about it after, writing “I totes just crashed a prom!” Tee hee! It’s a teenage dream indeed…

It got me thinking… which celeb would you MOST like to crash your next party?

Did you know that Australia is going science mad this month!? The Australian Science Festival is on now PLUS National Science Week kicks off on Saturday! Wowee! Science overload!

This year, the Australian Science Festival is all about biodiversity. Biodiversity means that there are lots and lots of different plants and animals thriving on our planet, which makes it green and great! To celebrate this, we’ve sussed out an uber-cool comp called the Bayer Science for a Better Life Competition!

To enter, create an image of something that is part of your local biosphere (hint: anything that is alive!!!) It can be a drawing, a photo or a crafty creation! Go crazy! If you’re not uber-arty, you can fill out an online quiz and answer a question about biodiversity! Or… if you’re really keen and you want to double your chances of winning… you can do BOTH!
