Congrats Sam!

The GP Team wants to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Sam Stosur! This awesome Aussie tennis player has just won the US Open! Yay! It’s been 31 years since an Aussie girl won a grand slam – wow! She’s really got girl power!

For those not up with the tennis lingo, a grand slam is a major international tennis tournament. There are four each year – the US Open, the Australian Open, Wimbeldon and the French Open. Now Sam’s won we think it should be renamed the Sam Slam!

Siblings: Two brothers

Started playing tennis: Age 8

World Cup Fever

Hi Girl Powerettes!

Happy Friday! Yay! What a week it’s been, it seems World Cup fever has taken over the country! So Australia lost the last game, but it is awesome that everyone is getting excited about sport and fitness, isn’t it? Getting active, working as a team, having fun – sounds like a recipe for a perfect afternoon.

Our New Zealand readers must be pretty excited too. The NZ team scored a goal in the last few minutes of injury time to come home with a tie. It was also the team’s first World Cup goal ever! Yippee!

As a side note – how cute is the World Cup mascot? His name is Zakumi and he is a leopard. His motto is, “Zakumi’s game is Fair Play!” Sounds like a fab motto to me!
